Out of the Box

Armed with a hammer and duct tape, Bert is your average guy working on his car. Annoyingly nerdy neighbor Kevin comes to the rescue just as Bert realizes he needs a wrench. The two head to Kevin's basement to search for the tool, but instead end up discovering a magic toolbox. Once awakened, Orpug the toolbox genie appears and agrees to grant his two masters six wishes (that's three apiece). Pandemonium ensues as the two debate world issues, hair and fashion. Finally, Kevin's wish to be Bert's friend comes true, yet is short lived. You never know what to expect from a hard-of-hearing genie freshly "out of the box.

Notes:
This film was shot for the 48 Hour Film Project, July 18-20, 2008. Each film in the competition had to include a prop (Wrench), a line of dialog ("But, what about global warming?") and a character (Kevin or Kristen Browning, a runner). In addition, each team picked a film genre from a hat. We picked "Fantasy." We shot with a Canon XH A1.
